Description of Significance ONE OF THE OLDEST BUILDINGS IN THE CHEROKEE NATION, THE SUPREME COURT BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1844. IT FUNCTIONED AS THE CENTER FOR NATIONAL JUDICIAL SYSTEM THAT THE CHEROKEE NATION BROUGHT WITH THEM ALONG THE TRAIL OF TEARS. IT SURVIVED THE RAVAGES OF THE CIVIL WAR, BUT SUCCUMBED TO THE DISSOLUTION OF THE CHEROKEE NATION PRIOR TO STATEHOOD. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 6/28/74
